Our Canyon tuna trips will typically continue through the middle/end of November, sometimes even into early/mid-December, depending on how long the tuna stay within our range.  These overnight trips provide access to some of the largest fish caught on rod and reel and allow even the most novice fisherman to experience a thrill and fight of a lifetime.

OVERNIGHT CANYON TUNA TRIPS – 30 Passenger Limit

During September and October, we will be running 22-hour, overnight canyon tuna trips. These overnight trips provide access to some of the largest fish caught on rod and reel and allow even the most novice fisherman to experience a thrill and fight of a lifetime.

The trip offshore is about 4.5 to 5 hours to the canyons at the edge of the continental shelf. We catch Yellowfin, Albacore and Bigeye tuna as well as Mahi-Mahi. Occasionally we catch: swordfish, White Marlin and Mako Sharks. The average Tuna range in size from 40 to 80LBS but tuna over 300LBS have been landed, and swordfish as large as 425LBS have been landed.

A limited number of sleeping bunks are available. There is also plenty of room in the cabin to sleep. We recommend you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow. There is a snack bar on board with a limited menu and a microwave available for customer use.

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED on these trips. To reserve a spot, send in the full payment with your name, address, and phone number, and the date you would like to sail.

Trip Times - In September and October, we leave the dock at 5:00 PM and return between 2-3 PM the following day.
Fare - $335. Tuna rod rentals are $25 additional.

Tuna bait - Sardines and Butterfish (provided)

Recommended Fishing Tackle:

NOTE: BRAIDED LINE is NOT permitted for bait fishing on Tuna trips. If there is braided line you must have at least 200 yards of Mono Top-Shot.
Braided line may be used for “jigging only” as long as you are not interfering with the chunking lines. (Captains decision is final).
Bait provided is: Sardines and Butterfish.
If you want to catch live bait it is recommended to bring a light spin outfit and squid jigs.

Tuna Rods and Reels - One stand-up type tuna rod with a Penn 6/0 or 2-speed 30 or 50 conventional reel (60 to 80-lb. test monofilament line), plus one 7-foot tuna jigging rod with Penn 4/0 or equivalent reel (60-lb test monofilament or 65 to 80-lb test braided line)

Tuna Tackle - 50, 60 and 80-lb test fluorocarbon leader material, barrel swivels (provided), 5/0 to 8/0 chunking or circle hooks (7/0 chunking hooks provided), 6 to 8-oz hammer finish diamond jigs, 1oz to 8oz egg sinkers, 8 to 16-oz bank sinkers, rubber bands.

Mahi Rods and Reels - One light to medium spinning rod (20-25lb test monofilament or 30-50lb braided line) for Mahi

Mahi Tackle - 1/0 and 2/0 hooks, and assorted small lures and jigs

Squid & Bait Rods and Reels - One light spinning rod and reel for squid and bait fishing (12 to 15-lb monofilament)

Squid & Bait Tackle - Squid jigs and sabiki-style bait rigs.

31-HOUR CANYON TUNA/MAHI TRIPS – 28 Passenger Limit

The 31-hour trips offer anglers more canyon fishing time. We offer these trips during September, October, and November. When we first arrive at the fishing grounds, we normally spend the afternoon fishing for Mahi-Mahi or possibly tuna if there has been an afternoon bite. The decision on what to fish for will be the captain's choice, depending on conditions. We usually set up for tuna just before sunset. We then fish for tuna through the night and into the early morning.

This works out to between 12 and 15 hours of fishing time for tuna alone.

A limited number of sleeping bunks are available. There is also plenty of room in the cabin to sleep. We recommend you bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow. There is a snack bar on board with a limited menu and a microwave available for use.

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED on these trips. To reserve a spot, send in the full payment with your name, address, and phone number, and the date you would like to sail.

Fare - $400. Tuna rod rentals are $25 additional.
